Firefox Mouse Gestures Add-On with status bar patch
Development of this add-on has been stopped. Instead I recommend you use the FireGestures add-on. It seems to provide the same features, is easier to configure and shows messages in the status bar. Of course it also supports Firefox 3.6.
The Firefox add-on Mouse Gestures is one of those extensions that I got most used to and whose absence annoys me quickly in every other browser. (With Opera it only takes a little longer.) The older version 1.5 was only available up to Firefox 2; a new version was developed for Firefox 3, featuring largely cleaned-up source code. Moreover has the new version the advantage to also work over input fields, where the right mouse button merely activated the context menu before.
Unfortunately the status messages of the new add-on version got quite obtrusive, which has led to numerous complaints in the user forum. As the developer is not willing or unable to perform the often-wished changes – pointing out the increased source code complexity for the required compatibility with Thunderbird and others – I have taken the job to move the status messages back to the normal status bar in the browser window.

Since I myself use this extension exclusively in Firefox and especially do not see any use for it in Thunderbird yet, I am satisfied with it working in Firefox (as seem to be many others, too). I did not even begin to think about compatibility with other applications. You’ll be trying that all on your own, it may work (which is unlikely), or it may render the application unusable. You have been warned!
I only did minimal changes to the original version. Besides the actual functionality, this includes information about the author, the homepage and the update URL. I increased the version number in the fourth digit.
The original version was developed by Jochen and the Optimoz Team.
The current version 3.0.2 supports Firefox 3.6 but it doesn’t work reliable. My Firefox is unable to install the original nor my patched version; after restarting the browser, nothing happened at all and there’s no error message. Thus at this time I cannot provide a version of this add-on that is compatible with Firefox 3.6. If you’d like to try it anyway, use this version: mouse_gestures-3.0.2.1.xpi
Installation
Install Mouse Gestures 2.1.4.1 for Firefox 3.5
Be sure to uninstall the original version before installing this add-on, and vice versa. Both versions cannot be installed at the same time.

Changes
Version 2.1.4.1 (10. Juli 2009)
- Update base version to 2.1.4. Compatible with Firefox 3.5.
Version 2.0.3.1 (21. Februar 2009)
- Update base version to 2.0.3. No own changes.
Version 2.0.0.2 (7. August 2008)
- Status messages from Mouse Gestures are removed from the status bar after a short while. With this change, this only happens if the status bar text has not changed meanwhile, like when hovering a link. Thus MG only removes its own messages now.
Version 2.0.0.1 (23. Mai 2008)
- First modified version of the original add-on
- Status messages are displayed in the browser’s status bar instead of a separate window
